Artifice

Commissioned by the Ann Arbor Arts Center and Clinc, Inc, the mural considers the relationship between humanity and technology as we move toward a future in which these elements are fundamentally interwoven in everyday life.

In the last few years, Facebook, Google, Apple, and Amazon came under unprecedented scrutiny in the US and elsewhere around the world. People began to question how these companies have used smart phones and social media to manipulate their users, and major antitrust moves are now being taken against the gatekeepers to the internet in an attempt to curb their unchecked power.

In August of 2021, Elon Musk unveiled a working prototype for Neuralink, a skull implant that can communicate with brain cells, calling it “a Fitbit in your skull with tiny wires.”
Virtual Reality (VR) technology is being touted for its myriad benefits ranging from gaming to psychology research in its push to be adopted into the mainstream.

Meanwhile, Silicon Valley’s top engineers disallow their own children from looking at iPads.
