Inspired by NC botanist William Willard Ashe, whose antebellum historic home sits adjacent to the hotel and for whom the lounge is named. Ashe worked for the US Forest Service for most of his life, and collected thousands of plant specimens. More than 2,300 of these specimens were donated to the UNC Herbarium at the North Carolina Botanical Garden.
