Over A Century Of Progress

Commissioned by Raleigh Iron Works, this work of art pays homage to the original ironworks foundry that once flourished here, serving as a symbol of Raleigh’s industrial heritage.

Centered in the image, a female worker represents the unrecognized and often overlooked heroes of our historical labor force. Her expression bears the anticipation of a bright future - a sentiment that bridges the gap between past and present. Her face, bathed in warm hues, echoes the labor-intensive process of forging iron, the intense heat, the relentless hammering, and ultimately, the formation of something robust, enduring, and fundamental to the building of our society.

Through the aesthetic language of this mural, we celebrate the industry that once defined us and honor the individuals who laid the foundation for our city. The mural’s message encourages us to remember those who came before us, cherish the progress we have made, and look forward with the same hopeful gaze towards the future.
